VACATION & GOODBYES

Françoise and Claude hurried and met me in the Lofoten! Remember, they've saved me from the cold at Nordkapp. Awesome to see them again! We've spent 5 days together, slowly enjoying the Lofoten! It was real vacation for me. Just reading at the beach, driving only a few kilometers everyday and eating delicious food that Françoise and Claude we're making. Lazy times! I've discovered Nyksund, Reine or Å, beautiful cities perched over the calm see. Perfection.

It was exactly what I needed before starting to come back. Because it has to happen at a point. After a last night close to the polar circle, still in Norway, I've left the country. I'm sad but I've seen a lot and it was awesome, every second. I'm now more south, in Sweden, in the city of Umeå, on the east coast. Two more weeks and back to real life...

Vivre lentement.

BACK TO LOFOTEN

In Kiruna, I've met Joris, a french ornithologist. I was suppose to drive him to Narvik and we end up spending a week together.

He made bread on the fire. He has taught me about birds. We've seen see eagles! Just sitting somewhere and waiting for things to happen. And we've seen seals, and porpoise, just there, in the amazing Norway nature. We went on a whale safari in Andenes. After 4 hours on the see, finally, we've seen a spermwhale under the almost midnight sun, so close to it. Awesome!

And ... My van broke again. Wheel problem this time. Stuck in Sortland, in the Vesteralen islands, for fours days, again! Luckily the garage gave us a car for free for the week end and we have visited the Lofoten. Under the sun. So different from the first time! Beautiful beaches with white sand and amazingly clear water. Absolutely perfect. Mike, we were just cursed!

It's summer now, almost 30°C yesterday at noon. It was close to zero two weeks ago. I'm more south, but still really above the polar circle. Country of contrasts! It's so nice to live outside again and not to wait in the van for the rain to stop.

I've left Joris in Moskenes, in the south of the Lofoten and went all the way up back to Sortland. The van will be ready tomorrow.

NORDKAPP

Well, after visiting the Alta Museum with awesome prehistoric rock art, I went to Nordkapp. After almost two month on the roads and more than 9500 kilometers. My goal. Driving through the reindeers herds to the northern point of Europe. I was so happy. I cried, of course. If you want to hear my joy on the radio, the podcast is HERE! There, I've met Françoise and Claude. We shared travelling stories (they have more to tell than me, a fucking cruise at the Antarctic!!), and we shared warm meal. It was so cold over there, at the end of the world. Almost zero degrees and snow. The van is not made for cold weather and I was not really prepared too. We actually haven't seen the midnight sun at Nordkapp, and I've spent two really hard nights without sleeping a lot, but it was awesome to share two days with them.

Then I've changed my plans. Wanted to go to Helsinki. But I've decided to go back to the Lofoten. I want to see them without the rain! And I do just what I want, so I'll skip whole Finland. I just went to Inari, in finnish Lapland to see a museum about the Sami, the Lapland people. Really interesting. And to put gas in the van, because euro is SO cheaper! The weather is way warmer and I feel better. I've finally seen real midnight sun without a cloud in the sky. Amazing.

Then I drove to Sweden, in Kiruna, where I am right now. Long boring roads when you've seen Norway and the small and scary mountains roads. Can't wait to be back in Norway! I'm just back from he visit of an iron mine. Oh, and I've crossed TEN THOUSAND KILOMETERS yesterday!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

J'ai atteins mon but.

GYPSIE LIFE

I was with Mike for a week. It has rained for a week. We are cursed (fuck Haugesund). The Lofoten island, and Senja island, and Tromsø, under the rain. The sunny pictures were taken during the only ten minutes of sun we had in a week. So I don't have a lot of pictures. And our life was basically driving-reading under the blanket-drinking wine. So frustrating to be in such amazing places but to see nothing because of the fog and the pouring rain. And it was SO COLD. It was snowing sometimes.

Well, we did the most beautiful hike of my trip so far, and I think it was the most beautiful moment of it all. A hike through the clouds to that beach were surfers have built a cabin, looking like a hobbit house. More pictures on film. The inside was insane. I'm happy that I shared that moment with you Mike, my gypsie friend. Like I said, best worst moments. Miss you already.

I'm in Alta now, spending the day here. Nordkapp SO SOON. And I might go back to the Lofoten after that, I'm SO frustrated.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miss you already.
