THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

Here we are. I've left Paris. I've left my apartment keys to my friend Anastasia for three month. I'm now in Bourgogne, almost ready to leave. The truck is almost filled. Books, wool, notebooks, cameras. Tomorrow is the last day.

Nous y sommes. J'ai quitté Paris. J'ai laissé les clés de mon appartement à mon amie Anastasia pour trois mois. Je suis en Bourgogne, presque prête à partir. Le camion est presque rempli. Des livres, de la laine, des carnets, mes appareils photos. Demain, c'est le dernier jour.

ALMOST

I was in Bourgogne for a few days. I've finally driven the truck, first with my uncle, then by myself! Easy! And I've started to clean the inside (the only eatable thing left was chesnut purée). And I've watched my grand-mother working on it, mostly. She is helping me a lot, I couldn't thank her enough. Departure in a few days, the time for me to finish off a few last things in Paris.

Je suis allée en Bourgogne pour quelques jours. J'ai enfin conduit le camion, d'abord avec mon oncle, puis seule! Easy! Et j'ai commencé à nettoyer l'intérieur (la seule chose encore mangeable était de la crème de marron). Et j'ai surtout regarder ma grand-mère bosser dessus. Elle m'aide tellement, je ne pourrais jamais assez la remercier. Départ dans quelques jours, le temps pour moi de boucler ce que j'ai à faire à Paris.

FIRST ROUND

THANK YOU

I've been waiting for that moment for a really long time. And it's now. I'm done with my job since friday. I've celebrated my resignation, my birthday and my departure with an awesome party. Now it's monday and I don't have to go to work. I just have to focus on the few last things I have to do.
I want to thank all my work mates for the awesome gifts. The dark blue box is to charge devices like my computer on my car, how crazy! And thanks to all my friends at the party, I'll buy so many rolls of films with all that money!
Next step on wednesday. I'm going to really arrange my stuff in the truck, to drive it and to sleep in it for the first time.

J'ai attendu ce moment si longtemps. C'est maintenant. J'ai fini le travail vendredi. J'ai célébré comme il se doit ma démission, mon anniversaire et mon départ lors d'une fête géniale. Nous sommes à présent lundi et je n'ai pas à aller au travail. J'ai juste à me concentrer sur les dernières choses qu'il me reste a faire.
Je remercie tous mes collègues pour leurs merveilleux cadeaux. L'espèce de boite bleu marine permet de charger des appareils comme mon ordinateurs sur l'allume cigare, c'est fou! Et merci à tous mes amis, je vais pouvoir acheter tellement de pellicule avec cette cagnotte.
Prochaine étape mercredi. Je vais vraiment ranger mes affaires dans le camion, je vais le conduire et dormir dedans pour la première fois.

ONE MONTH

One month. I'm leaving my job in two little weeks so things are going to start to speed up then.
The truck is at the garage. My mind is really far from Paris.

Un mois. Je finis le travail dans deux petites semaines, les choses vont donc commencer à s’accélérer à partir 
de ce moment là. Le camion est au garage. Mon esprit est très loin de Paris.

THIRTY EIGHT DAYS

In three weeks, I'm leaving my job. In a little bit more than a month, I'm leaving for real.

I'm making progress in the preparation every day. My to do list is getting smaller. I'll sublet my room to my dear friend Anastasia during the whole three months. Business cards are printed. Hard drive and SD card offered by my parents, arrangement of the truck thanks to my grandmother and my uncle, GPS borrowed from my brother. I'm buying a GoPro, I'm contacting blogs and websites to show my project. And I've started to bring things to my grand-parents in Bourgogne, where the truck is. Everything is fine.

But in my head, it's a little bit messy. I really can't wait, but I'm scared at the same time. Not scared of the trip, but more scared of my return. Finding a job. Money. But I'm not even gone, let's try really hard not to worry about after. Who knows what's going to happened during those three months?

So, working three more weeks. Saying goodbye to colleagues who are friends now. Partying for my birthday. It leaves us three other weeks before real departure. Spending time driving the truck and bringing the rest of my things. Keep working on the itinerary. A last weekend in Paris with my parents. And then leaving, finally.

Dans trois semaines, je finis le travail. Dans un peu plus d'un mois, je pars pour de bon.

Les préparatifs avancent petit à petit. Ma liste de choses à faire commence à diminuer. Je sous loue ma chambre à mon amie Anastasia pour les trois mois complets. Cartes de visite imprimées. Disque dur et carte SD offert par mes parents, aménagement du camion grâce a ma grand-mère et mon oncle, GPS prêté par mon frère. Achat de GoPro en cours, contacter des sites et des blogs pour faire voir mon projet. Et j'ai déjà commencé à emmener des affaires chez mes grands-parents en Bourgogne, où se trouve le camion et d'où je pars. Tout va bien.

Dans ma tête par contre, c'est un peu la pagaille. J'ai hâte et peur en même temps. Pas tant du voyage en lui même, mais surtout du retour. Trouver du travail. L'argent. Mais je ne suis pas encore partie, je ne vais pas commencer à penser à l'après. Qui sait ce qui va se passer pendant ces trois mois?

Encore trois semaines de travail donc. Dire au revoir aux collègues qui sont devenus des amis. Faire la fête pour mon anniversaire. Il restera alors trois semaines avant le départ. Passer du temps a conduire le camion, à y ranger le reste de mes affaires. Continuer l'itinéraire. Un dernier weekend à Paris avec mes parents. Et le départ, enfin.

BOOKS

Departure in TWO MONTH. My to do list is getting longer every day. Today was about starting to find someone to sublet my room and picking out all the books I've bought long time ago but never read to bring them with me. I've made the decision to only bring books and no series. HBO rehab. I'm going to my grand parents next week end, gonna start to bring things to the truck.

Départ dans DEUX MOIS. Ma "to do list" est chaque jour un peu plus longue. Aujourd'hui, j'ai commencé à chercher quelqu'un pour sous louer ma chambre et j'ai commencé à trier les livres achetés il y a longtemps mais encore jamais lu pour les emmener avec mois. J'ai décidé de ne pas emmener de séries, juste des livres. Désintox de HBO. Je vais chez mes grands parents le week end prochain, je commence à emmener des affaires à mettre dans le camion.

START

So, I'm starting to plan my itinerary. I've actually seen NOTHING of Europe (except Gothenburg, Berlin and Brussels), so I'll try to see as much as I can. It's actually real work. I have to read a lot about each country, I have to try to memorize geography and to remember the names of regions and cities I don't even know how to pronounce. For now, there's A LOT of "maybe", but it seems so far away that I let myself more time to think about it.

So, first, Belgium. I've was thinking about going back to Brussels but I've already been there twice (even if it was with fine arts school and roller derby), so I might go there only on my way back, if I feel like it! Let's focus on new places first. My first stop will be Ghent. I'll see my friend Kenzo there. We've met through work and I'm thrilled to see him again and to discover the city. I'm thinking about spending two days in Ghent.Then, a quick drive and I'll be in Bruges, for one day.

My third stop will be Amsterdam. Two or three days I think. Flowers market, riding a bike along the canals, Rijksmuseum… And I'm so addicted to seeing movies in cinema that I'll have to go to the Tuschinski theater.

Then, let's drive to Denmark (through Hamburg?). I don't know yet if I'll see other cities than Copenhagen. I'm doing research on the internet right now. But there's a place named Skagen, Denmark's northernmost town, which seems awesome to see. A sand peninsula disappearing into the see.

And I can't wait to see Copenhagen. I've heard only awesome things about this city. I'm planning to spend 4 or 5 days there, and I'll maybe stop again on my way back to France if I fell in love with the city, like someone told me. Scandinavian city but southern warmth. My friends Léa and Feryel are there right now, I'm counting on them for good tips.

After Copenhagen, I'll cross the Øresund bridge and go to Malmö, Sweden. But other country, other post.

Je commence à préparer mon itinéraire. Pour l'instant, je n'ai pas vu grand chose de l'Europe (à part Göteborg, Berlin et Bruxelles). Je vais donc essayer d'en voir le plus possible. Et ça demande en fait pas mal de boulot. Je lis beaucoup chose à propos de chaque pays, je fais des recherches. J'essaye de mémoriser la géographie générale et de me souvenir du nom de régions ou de villes que je ne sais même pas prononcer. Pour l'instant, beaucoup de "peut-être", mais j'ai encore largement le temps d'y penser.

D'abord, la Belgique. Je pensais peut-être retourner à Bruxelles mais j'y suis déjà allée deux fois (bien que se soit pour le derby ou pour les beaux arts). J'y passerais peut être au retour, si le coeur m'en dit. Privilégions d'abord les nouvelles villes. Mon premier arrêt se fera à Gand, pour voir mon ami Kenzo. Nous nous sommes rencontré au travail et j'ai hâte de le revoir et de visiter la ville. Je pense rester deux jours. J'irai ensuite a Bruges, un seul jour.

Ma troisième étape sera Amsterdam, pour deux ou trois jours. Au programme: marchés aux fleurs, vélo le long des canaux, le Rijksmuseum… Et vu que je passe ma vie au cinéma,  j'irais surement voir un film au Tuschinski.

Ensuite, le Danemark (en passant par Hambourg?). Je ne sais pas encore si je visiterais d'autres villes que Copenhague, je suis en pleine phase de recherches. Mais il y a Skagen, la ville la plus au nord du Danemark, qui a l'air incroyable. Une presqu'île de sable qui disparait dans la mer. 

J'ai hâte de visiter Copenhague. On m'a raconté tellement de choses sur cette ville! Je pense y rester 4 ou 5 jours, et peut être même y repasser au retour, si j'en tombe amoureuse comme on me l'a prédit. Mes amies Léa et Feryel y sont en ce moment et je compte sur elles pour revenir avec de bon conseils.

Après Copenhague, je traverserai le pont de l'Øresund pour aller à Malmö, en Suède. Mais ce sera pour un autre post.

PREPARATION

I have a lot of work to do before leaving, and it's really exciting. I have to plan my itinerary, quite precisely. I know there will be last minute changes (and that's what is good about travelling). But I don't want to miss a thing either. I have define my budget too. How much will gas cost? What is my food budget?

And I have a HUGE to do list. Things to buy, things to do, things to inform myself about. I'm travelling alone, so I don't want to forget anything, I have to be careful.

J'ai beaucoup de chose a faire avant de partir, ce qui est très excitant. Il faut que je définisse mon itinéraire, plutôt précisément. Il y aura forcément des changements de dernière minute (et c'est ce qui chouette avec les voyages). Mais je ne veux rien rater. Il faut aussi que je définisse mon budget. Combien vont me couter l'essence? La nourriture?

J'ai aussi une ÉNORME liste de choses à faire. Des choses à acheter, des informations à aller chercher. Je voyage seule, je ne veux donc rien négliger. Soyons prudent.

ROLLING HOUSE

Here is my future house. It belongs to my grand parents. I've been thinking about going somewhere driving it for years. And it's finally going to happend. It's small but has all you need. Kitchen, shower, toilets and bed. A few clothes, a lot of books, my camera and a ton of rolls of film.

Ma future maison. La camion appartient à mes grands-parents. Ca fait des années que je rêve de partir quelque par avec. Et ce jour est enfin presque arrivé. C'est petit à l'intérieur, mais je n'ai pas besoin de grand chose. Cuisine, douche, toilette et lit. Quelques habits, beaucoup de livres, mon appareil et une tonne de pellicules.
